    • The Fenland Gîte is a good base for visiting places such as Cambridge (16 miles) with its many historic University Colleges or for punting along the Backs. Newmarket (14 miles), the home of horse racing, has two flat racecourses where the Classic One Thousand and Two Thousand Guineas are run. Newmarket’s July racecourse also holds a series of summer evening race meetings on Fridays, followed by an open-air concert featuring a variety of top band.

  • Ely railway station offers fast and frequent services to and from Cambridge - and London is only 80 minutes away.

  • Other notable attractions in the area are Wicken Fen Nature Reserve (10 miles), Welney Wildfowl Trust (11 miles) and Anglesey Abbey, a National Trust historic house and gardens (20 miles). Ely is also well placed for a day at the seaside at the east coast resort of Hunstanton (43 miles) or the picturesque Holkham beach (57 miles)
